Job Description:
The Arc Eastern Connecticut has been providing services to
individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for
more than 60 years. We actively champion for full community
inclusion and are a licensed and contracted service provider of the
Connecticut Department of Development Services. We provide
residential, daytime, employment, and social supports to people
with IDD and their families. The Camp Director is responsible for
serving as the supervisor of the summer residential program. He/She
will adhere to the policies established by The Arc of New London
County, Inc. Board of Directors whose goal is to maintain full
community inclusion and integration for all individuals who are
supported by The Arc. Come join our team! Schedule: Reports at
12:00 pm on Sundays through 2:00 pm Fridays Work Location:
Waterford, CT Salary Information: $8,000-9,120 paid as bi-weekly
installments during the 6-week period. Essential Functions:
Provides on-site supervision for Assistant Directors and Camp
Counselors including employee development/performance and other
personnel related issues Meet with Assistant Directors twice per
session to review performance including area of cabin support
including evaluation of Camp Counselors Create and implement Plan
of Action with the help of the Assistant Director for counselors
who are in need of assistance in meeting job responsibilities Meet
with the Camp Administrator daily to review the camp program and
address areas of celebration or concern Plan and create the weekly
schedule with input from the Assistant Directors regarding the
activities for the session Oversee the implementation of the
schedule and provide support when needed Attend each daily activity
to supervise Assistant Directors and Camp Staff Intervene when
necessary to meet the health and safety guidelines of the program
Intervene when necessary to ensure camp activities are meeting the
goal of the program Create weekly cabin assignments Facilitate
weekly staff meeting with Assistant Directors and Camp Counselors
to review the upcoming session including specific special needs of
campers Review cabin logs as needed Process Incident Reports for
each session and give copies to both DDS staff and the Chief
Operating Officer Prepare camper profiles for Assistant Directors
to review prior to the start of the session Order needed
programming supplies with prior approval from Camp Administrator
Monitor the health and safety of all campers and environments
Maintain positive relations with other camps and DDS personnel
Expectations: Maintain a mature and positive attitude when dealing
with program participants, staff, families, the public, and outside
representatives Advocate for and protect participants’ rights in
accordance with Arc policies and procedures Treats all individuals
in an age appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and to
encourage opportunities that promote choice. Carry out all job
responsibilities in a professional manner Will begin duty at 10:00
a.m. on Sundays and end at 3:00 p.m. on Fridays Will adhere to
weekly overnight duty schedule as assigned by Camp Administrator
Will actively engage staff and campers in all activities Will
report concerns to Camp Administrator in a timely manner Will
follow and enforce camp dress code Ensure confidentiality as
required by law and The Arc and DDS policies and procedures which
includes keeping records, conversations, correspondence (regarding
program participants and staff) confidential Minimum
Qualifications: Prior experience working with people who have
developmental and physical disabilities preferred. Must have the
ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills
including recreation, independence, communication, and health.
Minimum of three years’ experience working in the health and human
service field. Valid driver’s license required. High School Diploma
or GED Required Applicants must possess basic computer aptitude The
Director of Camp must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
He/She will be required to participate in lifts, transfers, and
behavioral or physical intervention when necessary. He/She may be
exposed to risk of injury or exposure to occupational health
