Job Description:
The Arc Eastern Connecticut has been providing services to
individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for
more than 60 years. We actively champion for full community
inclusion and are a licensed and contracted service provider of the
Connecticut Department of Development Services. We provide
residential, daytime, employment, and social supports to people

June-August season Work Location: Waterford, CT Salary Information:
Between $3,500 and $4,000 bi-weekly installments between the 6-week
period. Description: The Camp Counselor at Camp Harkness is
responsible for providing direct care to assigned campers and
actively participating in all camp activities. The Camp Counselor
will adhere to the policies established by The Arc Eastern
Connecticut, Inc. Board of Directors. Essential Functions: Actively
participate in weekly theme activities Facilitate participation of
campers, adapt activities to meet individual needs of assigned
campers Assist in set-up and cleanup of all camp activities Ensure
campers’ health and safety according to individual camper profiles
Ensure campers are brought to the nurse for medication intervals
and as needed for first aid Maintain appropriate staff to camper
ratios as assigned by supervisors Review water safety assessments
and ensure campers are following individual guidelines Review
camper profile sheets for assigned cabins prior to start of the
session. Clean cabins daily and adhere to cleaning policy Attend
weekly meetings with supervisors to review profile sheets and
create a plan of care Assist campers with direct care needs Assist
campers in cafeteria as needed to meet camper needs. Must sit with
assigned campers at mealtimes and follow guidelines around food
consistency and dietary needs Complete daily cabin logs and submit
to supervisors Complete camper health and safety checklist and
submit to nursing staff Complete incident reports and submit to
supervisors per protocol Expectations: Maintains a mature and
positive attitude when dealing with program participants, staff,
families, the public and outside representatives Advocates for and
protects participants’ rights in accordance with The Arc policies
and procedures Treats all individuals in an age-appropriate manner,
with respect and dignity, and to encourage opportunities that
promote choice Carries out job responsibilities in a professional
manner Attends weekly staff meetings Adheres to weekly overnight
duty schedule as assigned by supervisors Engages campers actively
in all activities Reports concerns to supervisors in a timely
manner Follows camp dress code Treats all individuals in an
age-appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and to encourage
opportunities that promote choice. Maintains a mature and positive
attitude when dealing with program participants, staff, families,
the public and outside representatives. Works with a spirit of
cooperation with all departments. Carries out all job
responsibilities in a professional manner. Attends all agency staff
meetings and training sessions. Maintains attendance. Adheres to
policies on attendance, days of absence, and illness. Keeps
supervisor informed of any significant events or the need to modify
any area of the operation/activity. Serves as a positive and
appropriate role model for program participants. Provides advocacy
for participants based on their personal choice and their
individual plan. Develops and maintains positive relationships with
participants, their families, and providers. Responds to need of
participants, families, and providers in a timely and professional
manner. Minimum Qualifications: Prior experience working with
people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred
Must have the ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of
life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and
health Valid driver’s license required High School Diploma or GED
