Summary:

The CPE Program Manager demonstrates excellent customer service. He/She upholds the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant and commits to extraordinary care for every generation.

This individual is responsible for all aspects of the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program within Covenant HealthCare including the recruitment/screening of incoming students, the supervision and education of the students and maintaining accreditation and standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).

Responsibilities:

Maintain accreditation and standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).

Complete and submit annual center report.

Review, update, and develop CPE policies for the center's CPE program in conjunction with the Director of Pastoral Care and Education

Keep the student handbook up-to-date with ACPE Standards.

Complete 5-year reviews and 10-year accreditation reviews in conjunction with the Pastoral Education Consultation Committee (PECC) and the Director of Pastoral Care and Education.

Supervise and educate the CPE students.

Utilize well-developed curriculum for the center's CPE program.

Recruit, interview, and select students for the CPE program in conjunction with the Director of Pastoral Care and Education.

Provide orientation and training according to institutional, HFAP and ACPE Standards.

Provide educational opportunities, including regular supervision of residents and interns.

Provide timely feedback to students on their assignments and clinical work.

Support an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care.

Serve as a liaison to other healthcare areas (e.g., social work, nursing).

Provide educational opportunities to other disciplines as needed.

Serve on institutional committees as appointed.

Demonstrate a healthy working relationship with the Director of Pastoral Care and Education and the entire Pastoral Care and Education Department.

Provide limited direct pastoral care of patients, families, and staff in the role of a chaplain, as well as assisting with backup coverage.

May function as a chaplain in designated clinical areas.

Maintain positive relationships among community organizations, congregations and their leadership.

Initiate and pursue one's own professional continuing education as well as maintaining certification in one's certifying agency both as a chaplain and as a CPE certified educator.

Demonstrates excellent customer service; serves as a role model.

Demonstrates support of the vision, mission and values of Covenant HealthCare by individual actions.

Recognizes that our existence is to serve.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Undergraduate degree from a college, university, or theological school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Graduate-level degree (from a college, university, or theological school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation) in theology, pastoral ministry, pastoral counseling or a related field with a theological emphasis; or, equivalent education required by the applicable certifying body.

4 units of CPE accredited by the ACPE.

Prefer 1-2 years of acute care hospital experience.

Prefer 1-2 years of congregational leadership experience.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Certified as a chaplain by a professional national certifying agency (APC, NACC, NAJC, CPSP, NAVAC) or eligible to be certified.

Certified as a CPE Certified Educator by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).

Ecclesiastical endorsement.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Basic computer skills in data entry and word processing.

Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with patients, family and staff in routine and crisis situations.

Work requires extensive orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with hospital and department policies and procedures.

Ability to function within a self-directed team model and have a reasonable tolerance/flexibility for change.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

Constant feeling, hearing, visual accommodation and color vision.

Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs.

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, handling, talking, near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception and field of vision.

Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, tasting and smelling.
