[ "In addition to the minimal skills for a nursing assistant as outlined by the state of Michigan and OBRA, knowledge and skill sufficient to perform a moderately difficult range of patient care and serve as a responsible member of the patient care team are required, including: - Knowledge of and skill sufficient to recognize and properly use equipment, materials and supplies in a large variety of recreational, diagnostic and treatment procedures for the purpose of understanding and carrying out assigned instructions.\n- Practical knowledge of variety of sports, crafts, hobbies and games to plan outdoor and indoor recreational activities for the medical facility patients\n- Familiarity with the physical and mental capabilities, emotional and psychological considerations and interests of individuals for whom recreational activities are planned.\n- Familiarity with the maintenance requirements associated with recreational materials and equipment needed for games, crafts and sporting events\n- Ability to work with others such as recreational therapist, to plan, organize and administer recreational activities.\n- Logistical skills to plan and schedule recreational activities\n- Knowledge of and skill sufficient to observe resident's physical and emotional reactions to hospital care and treatments for the purpose of communicating with the patient care staff and making pertinent entries in the resident's medical record.\n- Knowledge and skill sufficient to understand the human body structures, function, illnesses and diseases, the treatment procedure, the supporting resident documentation and teaching, and the goal for assigned residents for the purpose of communicating with nurses, residents, and supporting medical staff.\n- Knowledge of standard medical terminology for the human body, physical and emotional reactions, and skill sufficient to provide and gather information to contribute to care plan modification, and to gather data for use in unit-level monitoring and evaluation\nIn providing care specific to the needs of the elderly (aged 65 and older), has basic knowledge regarding the following: Cultural values and attitudes toward the aged. Growth and development, including age-associated developmental tasks. Normal physiological, sensory, and psychosocial changes which accompany aging. Age-associated illnesses and conditions. Resident rights issues relevant to the aged. Age-related changes, pathologic changes, and environmental factors which place institutionalized elderly at increased risk, including frequently occurring complications related to environmental changes and mobility.
